PNW Rides and Events

GEARs is pleased to announce that you now can “Ride With Friends” on cycling events outside of the Eugene-Springfield area via Sign-up Genius! These “PNW Rides and Events” that you see below with the Sign-up Genius icon are will be hosted by GEARs members. The ride Host(s) will reach out to ride participants before the ride to help coordinate carpooling (please reasonably financially reimburse any carpool driver), a potential ride meetup start time, and other details. Participants are responsible for any required registration fees (registration links for each ride are next to the title of the ride). Wear your GEARs gear and smile for the camera! This is a great way to have a lot of fun and show your GEARs spirit! Note that Gears mileage and gain will not be awarded for PNW Rides and Events, nor is there GEARs insurance coverage for riders participating in PNW Rides and Events; the event should have it’s own coverage. This is a chance to ride knowing you will know others in the ride and to just plain have fun and camaraderie.

If you have a ride or event you would like listed on our list please email your event information to me at michael@eugenegears.org and I will add it to the list.

This endurance event showcases the raw beauty of ancient Siuslaw National Forests and some of its seriously stout hills. Whether you take on the 60 mile abomination or 37 mile Son of Abomination a good day in in store for you on the Oregon Coast.

Call your friends, grab your bicycle and helmet, and make sure your chain is well lubed for another rendition of this Lane County Spring Cycling Classic. The Art of Survival Century – May 25-26, 2024 – Malin, Oregon https://survivalcentury.com

It’s also an opportunity to learn about a region that includes Southern Oregon’s Klamath Basin and Northern California’s Tulelake Basin and Butte Valley area. What is unique about this event—which is a ride, not a race—is that at each rest stop offers educational components and/or ranger or historian led talks highlighting the cultural history, geography, environmental issues and geology of the area. Along with providing fluids and nutritious snacks at the rest stops, riders will have opportunities to learn about the areas they’re passing through.

Oregon Gran Fondo – Saturday, June 1, 2024 – Cottage Grove, Oregon https://www.mudslingerevents.com/oregon-gran-fondo

One big day in Cottage Grove Oregon just 20 minutes south of Eugene for the Oregon Gran Fondo.
Two all road cycling routes for the 117 or 71 miler and two mixed surface routes on the Adventure Route and Mini-Gravel.

Gran Fondo is Italian and translates approximately to “Big Ride.” Gran Fondo rides have their origin in Italy and France, where the general public was invited to ride a single stage of one of the professional grand tours, the Tour de France, and the Giro D’Italia after the pro race went through. Everyone, of any age and ability, was invited to participate. Ex-professionals and elite racers lined up side by side with 80-year-old farmers toting baguettes in the baskets of their 1920’s era commuter bikes. While some choose to ride fast and test their endurance, by definition, a Gran Fondo is not a race, but rather a mass start event designed to draw the community together and give everyone a chance to enjoy the fun of riding a bike on the same course as the pros.
We hope you will join us and Co-Motion Cycles for a fully supported and well catered timed cycling event with friends the first weekend in June.
