3/10 Board Meeting Minutes

GEARs Board Meeting Minutes

March 3, 2010

Attendees: Gary Cook, Richard Hughes, Kent Fleming, Paul Adkins, Sue Wolling, Price Armstrong

· Last meeting’s minutes were not specific regarding specific people and their names.  In the future, we should try to be more specific
o Minutes approved with the above

· BTA is hosting a Bike event, and GEARs may cosponsor.
o DATE?
o Location?  Perhaps Roaring Rapids pizza.

· Burley is going to be donating bikes to GEARs for an auction to benefit the organization.  Paul Adkins is the point person on this.
o National auction?  Local auction?
o Where should we store them?  We could store them at the storage business that sponsored the bRamble (name forthcoming).
o We should sell them ASAP, within the next few months definitely.

· Next month we will be meeting on Wednesday, April 7th at 7 PM where we will discuss the rest of the summer’s schedule (conflicts with the Wednesday rides).
o Sue Wolling will see if she can rearrange her work schedule for future Monday evenings instead of

·
Helmet stickers have been resolved.

· Treasurer’s report
o Account in better shape than this time last year.
o SeQuential Biofuels interested in advertising for GEARs.
o Independent Auditor, Kent Fleming, will be double checking the treasurer report.

· bRamble report
o Sue Wolling, Sarah Thorpe, Richard Hughes attended.
o We may only do online pre-registration or on-site registration; no more paper pre-registration.
o Maps may be re-done to be more self-explanatory.
o Food issues last year; Sue Wolling is looking into fixing last year’s complaints about quantity, quality.
o Price Armstrong will email Sarah Thorpe to make sure that we have all the necessary permits.

· Jamboree report
o Will be the day before the bRamble.  Bike Day will be run in conjunction with the Jamboree.
o Price Armstrong asked about the Bike Music Festival, but that event has a set date and will not be run in conjunction with Bike Day.
o Shane Rhodes will be the Jamboree coordinator.

· Recreational Ride/Social Event
o Gary Cook reported that the party went well.  Surveyed the participants.
o Survey showed that evenings on Thursdays would be good for future events.
o 24 attendees
o Next meeting will be at Countryside Pizza and Grill on River Rd, Thursday March 25th at 6:00 pm.
o Should have a designated “GEARs” area, and a greeter for newbies at the next meeting.

· Rides with City Councilors
o Sue Wolling was interested in engaging more with city councilors, and other policymakers of interest to GEARs.
o We could invite a person of interest to the general meetings to talk for 15 to 20 minutes with 10 or 15 minutes of Q and A afterward.
o Price will invite Rob Handy to discuss
§ Beaver Hunsaker Rd
§ Leaf removal program
§ County Road fund problems
§ River Road bike improvements

·
A letter to Terry Beyer regarding her vote against SB 1059 will be written and sent asking for her to explain her reasoning.

· A follow-up to Eric Jones will be written by Paul Adkins regarding the leaf removal.

· Board voted to approve the pizza expense from Roaring Rapids Pizza from the Feb. 25 General meeting.  ($235)
